On the second Tuesday of each fall and spring semester, NASA hosts a Sunrise Ceremony to start the semester off in a good way for all students, staff, faculty, and community members. We invite community elders to campus to provide a traditional blessing followed by breakfast and a mini open house at the center. This event is open to all who would like to participate.
We know that food is important across cultures and serves as a way to build community with one another. On the second Friday of each semester NASA hosts Feast Friday for students, staff, faculty, and community members to come and enjoy a home cooked meal and be in community with one another. We welcome staff and faculty to bring a meal to share, but this is not required to join us for Feast Friday.
Indigenous Peoples' Day is a student-led event that celebrates the beauty and diversity of Indigenous peoples' across the globe. This event is largely planned and facilitated by student leaders of the Indigicats Student Association (ISA). ISA along with students, staff, and community members work together to choose guests from the Indigenous community to invite to campus to host an all-day celebration of Indigenous culture and community.
The NASA Convocation and Leadership Awards Ceremony is held at the end of every spring semester and is a chance to celebrate the achievements and milestones of graduating Native/Indigenous students at the University of Arizona. The celebration also gives us a chance to recognize and celebrate our outstanding leaders across campus through NASA's leadership awards. NASA Convocation is open to all graduating undergraduate, graduate, and professional school students to celebrate with their families and the Native/Indigenous community at UArizona.
Celebrate your heritage and share your traditions with the larger UArizona community through cultural foods, events, music, art and other activities through the month of November. Use this platform to express your individual tribal identity, to represent your tribal community, to demonstrate tribal diversity, and to educate the campus about contemporary Native American stories and issues.
